New revamped design for an old character of mine. Kotosuke "Koto" Iwabuchi, as per some requests. (you know who you are) :thanks: older ver. can be found here.

Anyhoo, nuthin's set in stone, but i've been fiddling with his story since i started this drawing, soooo... here's what i got:

Since he looks older in this ver. i upped his age to 12, and his personality's changed a bit, too. Bio: "Kotosuke Iwabuchi" is the designation he was given by a genetics scientist who abducted him from an orphanage somewhere in Europe when Koto was a toddler. He became the man's living test subject for a project originally invented by the New England Government, known as the "Augment System," wherein a person's body is injected with nanomachines in order to vastly increase their healing abilities, stamina, and general other senses for military purposes. Over the process of several years in a controlled environment, the person's muscle tissue, organs, and even their blood is 'rebuilt' by the nanites, much in the same way the body regenerates new cells over the course of a lifetime, they are instead replaced by nanites for higher biological performance. It wasn't until Koto reached 10 years of age that he was rescued from the man by a government branch of the original Augment program, where he was transported to an underground facility called Sky Tail. Once there he was assigned to an 18-year-old "Trainer" by the name of Mayla Travis, whom he has become tremendously loyal and affectionate to since. Later on he learned that the man who kidnapped him was a former agent from Sky Tail, and that the Augment System project was continued even after the man's departure, so that now there are a total of 13 Trainer officers assigned to work with the successful Augments, including himself (though he is by far the youngest). An unexpected effect of the nanites integration into the humans' bodies resulted in the animalistic traits; these side effects are referred to as "hybrid genes."

While he appears polite and docile to most people, Koto can be bratty and mischievous when he's left on his own. He has no recollection of anything before his abduction, save for a few sparse flashbacks, but instead of being solemn or depressed by this, he simply chooses to ignore it and focus his attentions on "Ms. Mayla" and his friends/fellow agents at Sky Tail. Above all else, Koto hates being treated like a child, despite his age. He likes unusual clothes, Mayla, frogs, and sparring with another Augment on the base, Khorin, though Koto claims he can't stand the guy.

Koto can use either a subconscious or conscious will to activate the nanites in his body (which by his current age have reformed over 85% of his body, making it impossible to remove them) in order to fight in a hybrid state. Heckles raise on his back, becoming as hard as bone, turning into "spines," while the colors of his eyes invert, and his hands and feet can be altered into weapons, strengthened ten fold by the additional nanomachines. His Trainer, Mayla, can also voice a command which will disengage his attack-mode-state of being and bring him back to normal.

well... hope ya like it. story's still a WIP.

Aww! He's really adorable, and his expression is priceless.
You should draw a picture of his hybrid form, I bet it's spiffy.

What happens if you get scared half to death twice?
Don\'t be so open-minded your brains fall out.
If things get any worse, I\'ll have to ask you to stop helping me.

He sounds very well developed; I like this picture just as much as the first one I saw of him.

Since I do like your art, but I'm not sure how commissions work, could you explain this to me? I know what a commission is- just not anything else to do with them that has any significance.

Thanks. And sure! I'd be happy to. Lessie... it's been forever and a half since I've been commissioned, so I dunno about pricing or whatnot, but basically I can offer an unwatermark'd file of whatever you have me draw-- there are things I will and won't draw, so feel free to ask questions 'til you're satisfied. I don't mind at all. At this time I can't color things digitally (lack the programs) but I can color via markers or colored pencils if you like. Time duration is pretty sketchy right now since my schedule's up in the air irl, but I promise I'll make any commission top artistic priority and get it scanned and online asap. As for progress reports (I know I've read other devartists offer this for commishes) I can post a WIP of the sketch to get your okay on if it's what you want, after that I'll post the finished ver.

Thanks! That makes sense.
For prices, are you talk rl money, an art exchange, or what?
~Ashen-Phoenix:iconAshen-Phoenix: Jun 13, 2008, 6:21:08 PM
Well, that depends on the amount of detail you'd want in your commish; some artists do commissions for art exchanges, a month's subscription, or (most commonly) cash via a Paypal account.

Right now I'm trying to save up enough to either 1) get commissions myself or, B) invest in some CG programs like Painter IX or Photoshop CS3, so I'm more inclined to go the traditional route.

Why don't we Note and discuss what you'd maybe like to commission and we'll go from there? If it ends up being too much, I'll try to work something out. :) I'd love a chance to do commissions again.
